Your first year of high school is about exploring and experimenting different things that high school have to offer. You are transitioning into a new environment. Therefore, you will be quite busy with trying to figure your schedule, your extracurricular activities, and your social life. One of the most important things you can do in 9th grade is to try to keep up your momentum in order to set the tone for the rest of your high school years.

If you are struggling to keep up with your classes, the following resources may help:
Math: Khan Academy: has a library of more than 3,000 math, science, history lesson delivered in easy-to-understand videos. Flex Math: Math lessons in video format. Under the "subject" tab, you can select algebra, geometry, or calculus, depending on your math level. English/Language Arts: The Writing Process: A compilation of videos that will help guide you through your writing process. Use this if you need help brainstorming, outlining, and starting your essay. Essay Writing Guide: This guide have everything you need for different types of essay you will be expected to write, analytical, argumentative, persuasive, etc...It will help you get started on them at least. Quetext: You can Copy & Paste your essay here to see how much material on your essay have been written by someone else. In other words, check for plagiarism. Sparknotes: Use this as a GUIDE for your readings, not a REPLACEMENT! Social Studies: Crash Course: A go-to for brief and detailed explanation of any social studies topic you're confused about. Quizlet: You can utilized already-made flashcards or make your own to study for vocabulary you need to know. Anytime, anywhere! Getting Organized:
Planner- keep a planner to keep track of the things you will need to do in a day. You are probably already doing this. There are also alternatives:
YOUR COACH- don't be afraid to reach out to your coach for help with reading essays, finding more job opportunities, and many more. They are there for you for a reason. Volunteer/Internships/Jobs for 9th Grade
Now is the PERFECT time to start building your resume with experience by applying to internships or jobs. As a 9th grader, your options for jobs/internships may be more limited. However, there are still plenty of volunteer opportunities that will help you find a better job/internship later in your high school year.
Volunteer Opportunities: Cookie Cart Volunteer Fairview Hospital Junior Volunteer- You can choose the Fairview location for yourself and see if they have a junior volunteer program. School Year PAID Opportunities: Minnesota Historical Society- High School Internship Cookie Cart Bakery Program Summer PAID Opportunities: Summer Science Opportunities Guide Sheet- In this sheet, you will find programs for high schoolers in the summer sponsored by places such as NASA, Stanford University, 3M. It provides you with what the program is, the link to those program, and the requirements. They are usually both PAID and UNPAID. BOOKMARK this page for future reference and deadlines. Applications are usually due later in the Spring, but bookmark so you won't forget! Breakthrough Collaborative- Apply to be a program intern! Give back to your community! |
